Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar has lamented his side’s inability to close in on the Champions League places after Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Fiorentina.

The Brazilian shot-stopper helped to keep the match scoreless, as he saved Adem Ljajic’s penalty kick in the second half.

Inter remain seventh in the Serie A table following the stalemate, and Cesar did not hide his disappointment with yet another negative result from his side.

“This has been a difficult season for us, but we are trying,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had the hundredth opportunity to get closer to the third spot, but Fiorentina defended well and we could not find space.

“Today’s match was not an easy one. We will do the math in the end, there are many matches remaining.”

Inter, who have 49 points from 33 matches, will visit Udinese on Wednesday in their rescheduled match.
