Arsenal have left out club captain and Barcelona target Cesc Fabregas from the squad to play in the Emirates Cup.

The move to omit the Spain international from the pre-season tournament is sure to further ignite talk that a deal between English Premier League club Arsenal and the La Liga champions is edging closer to completion.

“He is not settled and that has to be sorted out soon. He (Fabregas) is just coming back from injury and we have to make sure that he is focused on being with us,” Gunners coach Arsene Wenger said.

“Cesc is torn between two loves. I can understand that but we want to be certain about his commitment.”

“We read that (Samir Nasri) and Cesc are somewhere else every day. But they are still here.”

The tournament opens on Saturday with a match between MLS club New York Red Bulls and Paris Saint-Germain of France, followed by Arsenal’s clash with Argentine Primera Division outfit Boca Juniors.
