New Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna revealed the promise of UEFA Champions League football was key in him signing for the club

The Serie A champions parted with €13million to sign the Italy international from local rivals Torino, with Ogbonna penning a five-year deal at the Juventus Stadium.

Juve secured their second straight league title last season meaning they will once more feature in the Champions League, something Ogbonna labelled crucial in his decision to move teams.

“Playing in the Champions League is the ambition of every youngster. I hope I’ll be able to have the opportunity,” he said.

“There are great teams in the Champions League and we’ll work hard to prepare ourselves for that particular challenge.

“It’s immensely satisfying to be part of a team playing in the Champions League and winners of back-to-back titles.”

Ogbonna revealed the move was motivated by ambitions of improving his career both domestically and on the international stage, and said he has been well received from the supporters.

“I’m a professional and always focus on the present and future. Moving here fits in perfectly with my ambitions,” he continued. “The only team who really wanted me was Juventus, no-one else.

“I’ve joined a great team comprised of many champions. I’ll look to do my best and find a place in the side.

“Playing alongside my new team-mates could also help me as far as my progress with the national team is concerned.

“I’ve had a positive welcome from the fans, my team-mates and manager.

“I’m very proud to be here. I’ve joined one of the best teams in the world and it’s a great opportunity for me.”
