The draw for the quarter-final of the Champions League has been made in Nyon today and it’s fair to say that the results did not disappoint.
Juventus vs Real Madrid
Champions League holders Real Madrid have been handed a tough tie against Serie A champions Juventus who are keen to make what could be Gianluigi Buffon’s final push towards the European glory.
Los Blancos have struggled domestically but their international form has been successfully maintained throughout the season. Off the back of a morale boosting victory over PSG, Zinedine Zidane’s men will need to dig deep to overcome in-form Juventus who came from behind to eliminate Tottenham in the middle of London.
Our Pick: Real Madrid
Liverpool vs Manchester City
Premier League runaway leaders Manchester City have been pitted against Liverpool in an all-English tie which caused quite a reaction in the British media. Citizens and Reds are England’s last remaining representatives in Europe’s elite club competition following Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham’s elimination in the previous round.
And with the last two remaining English sides thrown against one another, the Premier League will see it’s sole representative progress into the semi-finals.
Our Pick: Manchester City
Barcelona vs AS Roma
La Liga leaders will face Italian heavyweights AS Roma on their way towards European glory which has been highlighted as this season imperative.
With Leo Messi in full swing – aiding to his team’s cause with three goals over two Last 16 legs against Chelsea, which took his tally to 100 Champions League goals – Barcelona are considered firm favourites against the erratic Italian side.
AS Roma did well to prove they deserve their place among the top eight clubs in Europe against Shakhtar Donetsk but a tie against Barcelona is an entirely different challenge.
Our Pick: Barcelona
Sevilla vs Bayern Munich
La Liga side Sevilla have been rewarded for Manchester United elimination with a Bayern Munich draw which – in its own merit – is a challenge of a completely different volume.
German superclub are a force to be reckoned with and an established European powerforce on its way towards European glory. Bundesliga behemoths have failed to mount the European challenge for longer they would have liked. Their 8-1 aggregate demolition of Besiktas was interpreted as a clear message of intent but Sevilla will not carry a white flag heading into the tie.
Our Pick: Bayern Munich
Betting Odds
Catalan giants Barcelona have overtaken Manchester City on the list of betting favourites to lift the coveted trophy in May with 5/2 betting odds stacked in their favour compared to 7/2 price given on Manchester City.
These two sides are the likeliest to reach the final as well with 1/1 slapped on Barcelona and 13/8 on the Citizens.
With six goals more on his tally than Leo Messi who’s thus far bagged six, Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite to finish this year’s edition of the Champions League as the Top Scorer with a paltry 1/12 price.
Sevilla hero Wissam Ben Yedder who’s got eight goals on his tally is given whopping 50/1 betting odds to beat the Portuguese superstar to the sought-after title.
