Champions League to return to Wembley?

Wembley could host the 2013 Champions League final, just two years after the showpiece was last played at the stadium.

According to reports in the British media, UEFA is considering returning the game to the London venue after the logistical and financial success of this year’s event.

The reports also claim that the match, played between Barcelona and Manchester United, earned 50 million pounds in ticket revenue alone.

There had been criticism by some fans that tickets for the game had been too expensive.

Next year’s final will be held in Germany at the Allianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich.

Wembley is also thought to be favoured by UEFA because it is an unbranded stadium, unlike the Munich venue, which clashes with their major sponsors.

The London stadium has already hosted more finals than any other – six in total.

If selected for the 2013 edition, it would be the first time that an arena has been chosen to stage UEFA’s showpiece event twice in three seasons.
