Tottenham booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages with a convincing 3-0 win over Werder Bremen at White Hart Lane.
Harry Redknapp’s side were brimming with confidence following their recent victory over Inter Milan at White Hart Lane and their north London derby win over Arsenal on Saturday.
But Redknapp was determined to see his side secure an early passage into the last 16 and they did not disappoint as strikes from Younes Kaboul, Luka Modric and Peter Crouch made it another memorable European night in north London.
The home side got off to a dream start when Kaboul opened the scoring after just six minutes.
After the Werder Bremen defence failed to deal with a corner from Gareth Bale, the ball fell to Aaron Lennon who crossed back in for Kaboul and he made no mistake striking a volley into the roof of the net.
Tottenham showed no signs of a hangover from their impressive victory over arch rivals Arsenal and doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time.
Alan Hutton crossed the ball in for Crouch who nodded down to Modric. The Croatian used a great piece of skill to take the ball from his left to his right and smashed a half-volley past Tim Wiese to put the home side in control.
Gareth Bale has been outstanding in the Champions League this season but he failed to repeat his heroics from the last game against Inter Milan when he missed a penalty on 54 minutes.
Modric was brought down inside the box and Portuguese referee Olegario Benquerenca had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
But Bale saw his spot kick superbly saved by Wiese who did well to palm the ball away diving to his left hand side.
Tottenham completed the rout when Crouch added a third on 79 minutes. After Bale inadvertently struck the bar with his cross, the rebound fell to Lennon who once again turned provider when his slick pass fell perfectly to Crouch who knocked the ball home from close range.
