Birmingham consolidated fourth place and a potential play-off place with six games to play after a 3-1 win at Burnley.
Three goals in the closing 20 minutes saw the game spring to life after Marlon King had given Birmingham an 11th-minute lead with a strike into the bottom corner.
The late drama saw Burnley equalise in the 74th minute through Danny Ings’ header, but the advantage did not last long with Jordan Mutch finishing well a minute later to restore Birmingham’s lead.
The victory was assured two minutes from time as full-back David Murphy was quickest to pounce on goalkeeper Boaz Myhill’s error to score a third for Birmingham.
With a healthy goal difference, the Blues are now within touching distance of the play-offs on 66 points with three other teams – Blackpool, Brighton and Middlesbrough – three points adrift in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
