Cardiff ended Leeds United’s 12-match unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday.
The Bluebirds shook off their horrid run of form to move back into second place on the Championship table after goals from Craig Bellamy and Michael Chopra secured all three points.
Cardiff had slumped to fifth on the table after winning just two of their last 10 matches, putting manager Dave Jones in the spotlight.
But former Liverpool striker Bellamy got them off to the perfect start in front of their home fans, beating Leeds goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel with a low shot after a well-worked short corner with Peter Whittingham in the 11th minute.
Cardiff continued to bombard the Leeds defence with Bellamy and Chris Burke both having efforts saved by Schmeichel.
Lee Naylor also had a chance from close range for the hosts, but somehow managed to blast his shot over.
Cardiff’s dominance continued in the second half with Burke missing a header after being set up by Bellamy.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson looked to his bench for inspiration and the inclusions of Sanchez Watt and Lloyd Sam paid dividends as the visitors equalised on 59 minutes.
Sam broke through the defence only to have his shot saved by Tom Heaton, but the Cardiff custodian could not stop Robert Snodgrass’ follow-up.
But just when it looked as though Leeds might hang on for an unlikely draw, Whittingham’s long ball on 79 minutes caught the visitors’ defence napping and Chopra raced through to prod the ball past Schemiechel.
