Doncaster Rovers struck a last-minute winner to come from behind and beat Middlesbrough 2-1 in the Championship on Friday.
Australia international Scott McDonald put Middlesbrough ahead after just four minutes at the Keepmoat Stadium, but James Hayter equalised for Doncaster in the 22nd minute before Brian Stock snatched all three points with a strike four minutes into added time.
Middlesbrough came into the match on a high following victory over second-place Cardiff that lifted them out of the relegation zone.
They began the brighter of the two sides, with David Wheater heading narrowly over before Dutchman Marvin Emnes set up McDonald to strike the opener from 12 yards out.
Mark Wilson and Hayter both went close to equalising for Doncaster, before the latter did exactly that on 22 minutes, heading home a Billy Sharp cross to level proceedings midway through the half.
Leroy Lita was denied twice early in the second half by 40-year-old veteran Neil Sullivan in the Rovers goal, while Joseph Mills and John Oster spurned opportunities to put the hosts in front.
The match appeared destined for a draw before the intervention of Stock, who made himself a hero by scoring his first goal in nearly two years with seconds remaining.
Doncaster climb to eighth in a congested table, with a host of clubs able to overtake them with victory in Saturday’s fixtures.
Middlesbrough remain one place outside the relegation zone, but a win for Crystal Palace or Stockport County will see them slip back into the bottom three.
