Championship leaders Leicester City go in search of a club record eighth consecutive league win they face Birmingham City on Tuesday.

Nigel Pearson’s side are riding on the crest of a wave after stretching their winning run to seven games with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Midlands side beat Birmingham 3-2 on the opening day of the season and another three points would better the sequence of seven victories in a row last achieved in the 1992-93 campaign.

With second-placed QPR not in action at the weekend, Pearson’s charges were able to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points and they look destined to return to the Premier League.

Rangers are also in fine form, having won their last three Championship games, and they host Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.

Harry Redknapp’s side have lost only once at Loftus Road this season and will be expected to beat a Bolton side that were hammered 7-1 at Reading in their last league game.

Third-placed Burnley also had a weekend off and Sean Dyche’s men will be eager to get back to winning ways at home to Brighton and Hove Albion after drawing against Sheffield Wednesday at Turf Moor last time out.

Patrick Bamford scored his second goal in as many games to salvage a 1-1 draw for Derby County at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, and the striker will be hoping to be rewarded with a start when Yeovil Town visit the iPro Stadium.

Fifth-placed Nottingham Forest are not in action until Thursday, when Watford travel to the City Ground, and so Reading can go level on points with Billy Davies’ side with a win at home to struggling Blackpool on Tuesday.

Ipswich Town are just outside the top six after beating Reading 2-0 on Saturday to move just two points behind their opponents and Mick McCarthy’s charges face out-of-sorts Leeds United at Elland Road.

At the other end of the table, bottom side Barnsley will be striving to build on their win over Blackpool by beating Blackburn at Oakwell.

Charlton Athletic will be attempting to leapfrog Doncaster Rovers by beating the Yorkshire club at the Keepmoat Stadium, while Stuart Gray will be hoping to celebrate landing the Sheffield Wednesday job on a permanent basis with a win at Millwall.

In the other games to be played on Tuesday, Middlesbrough host fellow play-off hopefuls Wigan Athletic, while Huddersfield Town make the long journey to Bournemouth.
