Pablo Hernandez scored a late goal against former club Swansea City to salvage a point for Leeds United on Tuesday evening, and in doing so send his side to the top of the Championship.
Oli McBurnie twice put the Swans in front though replies first from Kemar Roofe and the Hernandez made sure the spoils were shared.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have now leapfrogged Middlesbrough into first place and are ahead on goal difference with Swansea down to sixth.
Surprise start
Bolton Wanderers, who began the campaign as favourites for relegation are up to third after edging past Birmingham City – Will Buckley with the only goal of the game on Wednesday evening.
The Trotters, like Leeds and Boro are on ten points and can be backed at a price of 12/1 to finish the season in the top six.
Garry Monk’s men, who are yet to win this season slip down to twentieth place level on points with Stoke City who drop into the relegation zone after being thumped by three goals to nil by Wigan Athletic at the Bet 365 Stadium.
Furore
There were chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ sang towards Potters boss Gary Rowett, who has overseen a winless run of four games and the former Derby boss will be keen to turn things round quickly with Hull City the visitors at the weekend.
The Rams returned to winning ways in the league on Tuesday, beating Ipswich Town by two goals to nil, a result which lifts Frank Lampard’s men to eleventh.
There was a five-goal thriller at the New York Stadium as Hull came from behind to beat Rotherham United.
The hosts took the lead on sixteen minutes through Richard Wood though Jackson Irvine scored either side of a Frazier Campbell strike to put the Tigers in control.
Jamie Proctor netted late on for Rotherham, but the visitors held on to record their first win of the campaign.
Misery
Bristol City also won for the first time this term, piling more misery on bottom-of-the-table Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
Matt Taylor put the Robins ahead just before the break while a second half brace from Andreas Weimann made it three-nil to Lee Johnson’s side, who are up to thirteenth.
Aston Villa and Brentford played out a 2-2 draw at Villa Park – a result which keeps both sides in the play-off positions while it was also two a piece at Blackburn Rovers where Reading picked up their first point of the campaign.
Elsewhere, there were home wins for Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City, who beat Millwall and Preston North End respectively.
The result at Hillsborough was Wednesday’s first win on a Wednesday for four years.
