West Bromwich Albion were the big winners on matchday three in the Championship after thrashing Queens Park Rangers by seven goals to one at the Hawthorns.
The sides went in level at half-time after Joel Lynch levelled to cancel out Matt Phillips’ opener though the hosts ran riot after the break.
Kieran Gibbs put the Baggies back in front eight minutes into the second-half with his first goal for the club and it was 5-1 half an hour later after Jay Rodriguez netted two penalties – one either side of Dwight Gayle opening his account.
Phillips grabbed his second two minutes from time before Hal Robson-Kanu made it seven in stoppage time.
The result sees Darren Moore’s side rise to third place while the Hoops are rooted to the bottom of the division after three straight losses with Bet 365 now offering a price of 15/8 for them to be relegated.
Leaders
Middlesbrough remain top after beating Bristol City at Ashton Gate thanks to goals from Martin Braithwaite and Britt Assombalonga while Leeds United have moved into the automatic promotion spots after making it three wins from three.
Marcelo Bielsa’s title favourites eased past Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United 2-0 while Brentford returned to winning ways – beating Sheffield Wednesday by the same scoreline.
There were draws for Aston Villa and Swansea City, against Ipswich Town and Birmingham City respectively while Bolton Wanderers continued their impressive start to the campaign with a narrow win at pointless Reading – Yannick Wildschut getting the only goal of the game.
Fight
Nottingham Forest twice came from behind to salvage a point with Wigan Athletic – the hosts going behind inside five minutes for the third time in five games.
Matty Cash levelled before Will Grigg’s penalty put the Latics back in front though Hillel Soudani equalised late on to keep the Reds unbeaten.
Former Forest striker Billy Sharp also scored in added time to give Sheffield United all three points against Norwich City while Millwall beat Derby County 2-1 at the Den.
Blackburn Rovers edged past Hull City while Saturday’s action concluded at Preston North End where substitute Peter Crouch scored within moments of coming on to help salvage point for Stoke City.
Action
Most of the division are back in action midweek with the pick of the fixtures coming at Elland Road where Leeds take on Swansea on Tuesday evening.
Elsewhere on Tuesday QPR will be looking to get off the mark as they take on Bristol City, Derby host Ipswich and Hull City travel to Rotherham.
Aston Villa face Brentford on Wednesday with both sides in touch of top place while Bolton, who are also on seven points host Birmingham.
Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers have home matches against Millwall and Reading while Preston travel to Norwich and Wigan are at Stoke.
