Swansea missed a golden chance to draw level with second-placed Cardiff on Friday after losing 2-1 at home to Portsmouth in the English Championship.
The hosts made the best possible start to proceedings and found themselves a goal up after just two minutes after a strike from Scottish striker Craig Beattie.
But David Nugent equalised for Portsmouth two minutes before half-time, before defender Greg Halford scored the winner on 65 minutes to hand Portsmouth their first win in five matches.
The victory sees them move to 25 points and into 12th place on the Championship standings ahead of a home clash with Burnley next Sunday.
Swansea remain on 33 points, three behind Cardiff who are second and five behind league leaders Queens Park Rangers.
They face a tricky trip to Ipswich Town on Friday.
