Middlesbrough moved to the top of the Championship table on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Tony Mowbray’s men had a 65th-minute strike from Dutch striker Marvin Emnes to thank for the win, and with Brighton suffering a 1-0 defeat at Leicester – courtesy of a Yuki Abi goal – Boro moved two points clear of Brighton at the top of the table.

Elsewhere on Saturday, early-season pacesetters Derby County moved into fourth with a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest.

Forest took the lead through a penalty from Andy Reid in the fifth minute, but Derby levelled thanks to Jamie Ward after 29 minutes and Jeff Hendrick scored the winner 18 minutes from the end.

Neil Kilkenny scored for Bristol City in his return to Elland Road against Leeds, but the Australian would ultimately be going home unhappy after a goal from Adam Clayton and a late winner from Ross McCormack gave Leeds a 2-1 win.

Blackpool and Cardiff played out a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road, with Kevin Phillips equalising for the home side after Don Cowie had given Cardiff the lead five minutes after the break.

Hull City enjoyed a 1-0 win at home over Portsmouth, a double from Emile Sinclair led Peterborough to a 2-1 win over Burnley and Reading defeated Doncaster Rovers 2-0 at home.

Old rivals Millwall and West Ham played out a goalless draw at The New Den, while Barnsley and Watford shared the points at Oakwell Stadium after a 1-1 draw.
