Cardiff City moved top of the Championship after a 3-1 win over Bristol City on Sunday, while Blackpool also recorded their second win.

Malky Mackay’s team started brilliantly at the Cardiff City Stadium and they were 3-0 up after 36 minutes.

Captain Mark Hudson headed the hosts ahead on 19 minutes before winger Craig Conway, who set up the first goal, hit a 20-yard strike to make it 2-0.

The game was all but over nine minutes before the interval when striker Robert Earnshaw was presented with a tap-in.

Forward Nicky Maynard struck an 82nd-minute consolation goal as Bristol slumped to the bottom after a second straight defeat.

In the day’s other game, a brace from Kevin Phillips has helped Blackpool to a 2-1 win over Peterborough United.

Journeyman Phillips struck either side of half-time to put Ian Holloway’s men two goals to the good.

Scot George Boyd’s goal eight minutes from time made for a nervous finish but they moved into third after holding on for the win.
