A controversial late winner from Darren O’Dea saw Leeds United move to fifth in the Championship on Saturday, while Middlesbrough took second spot.
Goals from Andy Keogh and Adam Clayton had Leeds 2-1 up nine minutes into the second-half against 10-man Peterborough at the London Road Ground, with Lee Tomlin given his marching orders after 37 minutes for a tough challenge on Keogh.
But Mark Little scored for Peterborough after 88 minutes following an error from Leeds goalkeeper Paul Rachubka, seemingly salvaging a point for the hosts.
Leeds had to wait until the fifth minute of stoppage time to make sure of all three points, when O’Dea turned in a free kick from Clayton.
But Peterborough fans were furious O’Dea was still on the pitch after escaping with a booking for a last-man foul on David Ball.
There was no such drama at Riverside Stadium, as goals from Australian defender Rhys Williams and Dutch striker Marvin Emnes handed Middlesbrough a 2-0 win over Derby.
A goal from Patrick McCarthy gave Crystal Palace a 1-0 win at Ipswich, moving them into third place.
Goals from Wes Morgan and Radoslaw Majewski gave Nottingham Forest a 2-1 win against Blackpool, while Cardiff climbed to eighth place when a brace Aron Gunnarsson powered them to a 5-3 home victory over Barnsley.
Burnley left Coventry just one point clear of the drop zone with a 2-1 win at Ricoh Arena, while Hull moved into sixth after twice coming from behind to defeat Watford 3-2 at home.
A hat-trick from Darius Henderson lifted Millwall clear of the relegation zone with a 3-0 win against Leicester City, and a Luke Varney double fired Portsmouth to a 3-1 triumph against Doncaster.
