Nigel Pearson kick-started his second spell as Leicester City manager with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, thanks to Paul Gallagher’s brace.

Pearson returned to the Foxes this week, leaving his post as Hull boss, following Sven-Goran Eriksson’s dismissal at Leicester.

After a dismal first half, Jermaine Beckford opened the scoring with a shot inside the area before Gallagher added two in the last 15 minutes, both spectacular long-range strikes.

In the earlier game on Sunday, Nicky Maynard led Bristol City’s recent resurgence with a double in a 2-1 win away at Millwall.

It was City’s fourth game unbeaten and moves them within two points of safety having started the campaign with just six points in their opening 13 games.

Maynard collected Neil Kilkenny’s pass on 14 minutes to slot home the opener. Jay Simpson drew level for the hosts on 57 minutes before Maynard smashed in Albert Adomah’s squaring ball to restore the lead.

Millwall are now dangerously close to the drop zone themselves, two points above Bristol in 20th.
