The prospect of playing in next year’s African Champions League means Isaac Chansa could yet renew his contract with Orlando Pirates.
The midfielder’s existing deal expires at the end of the season in June 2012.
Chansa – who is a vital cog in the Pirates line-up – said he is happy playing for the Buccaneers and would like to stay on for another spell.
“I would like to continue playing for Pirates. We will see how things go when we start contract talks,” Chansa told KickOff.com.
“I am happy here but right now we are focusing on making sure that we get as many points as possible before the Christmas break,” added Chansa, who scored an important goal in Pirates’ 3-0 demolition of table toppers SuperSport United last Saturday.
Pirates spokesperson Mickey Modisane says the club will soon start contract talks with Chansa, as well as winger Tlou Segolela, whose contract also expires in June 2012.
“For both players, signing new contracts is something that is in the pipeline,” Modisane said.
“Talks will start early next month because right now we are focusing on making sure that we continue winning as many matches as we can.”
“We do not want our players to be distracted.”
Orlando are sixth on the Premier Soccer League table, four points outside the Champions League qualification places.
