Charlton set for Gomez windfall

The Mail Online understands that Charlton Athletic will receive a £250,000 windfall if Joe Gomez makes his England debut this weekend.

The Reds signed then promising defender Gomez from the Addicks in the summer of 2015 for an initial fee of £3.5m.

However, it has been revealed that the clubs placed a clause in the deal that will see the League One outfit bag a quarter of a million pounds once the player runs out as a full international.

Gomez has been given a chance this season following an injury to fellow full-back Nathaniel Clyne and has impressed Three Lions’ boss Gareth Southgate enough to be drafted in for the forthcoming friendly matches with Germany and Brazil.

He has made twelve appearances in all competitions this season – a tally which includes eight Premier League starts though he was sent off in the only game he started in the Champions League – a 2-2 draw with Sevilla back in September.
