(GSM) – Second-division Chaves booked an unlikely berth in the Portuguese Cup final on Tuesday as their 2-1, second-leg extra-time win over Naval secured a 3-1 aggregate triumph.
Chaves held a 1-0 lead from the first leg, but Fábio Santos cancelled that out for Naval in the 15th minute.
The match remained at 1-0 after 90 minutes, sending the tie to extra time.
Twenty minutes in, Chaves took a stunning lead when Eduardo bagged his first goal of the year for the visitors.
With Naval demoralized, Eduardo notched a second at the death to secure a historic achievement for Chaves.
Chaves, promoted from the third division just last season, would be guaranteed a berth in the Europa League for next season if they were to face Porto in the final and Porto make the Champions League.
Porto, which leads Rio Ave 3-1 heading into tomorrow’s second leg, are just five points back of the final Champions League place.
Chaves currently sit in the relegation zone of the second division with only four matches left to play.
