Chelsea´s Peru striker Pizarro re-joins Bremen

Werder Bremen confirmed on Tuesday they have signed Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro back from Chelsea on a three-year deal.

The 30-year-old forward spent last season on loan at Bremen, but on his return to London he has struggled to impress new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti who left him out of the squad for last weekend’s 2-1 league win over Hull City.

Pizarro already played for Bremen from 1999 to 2001 and the Peru star has plenty of Bundesliga experience having spent six seasons at Bayern Munich.

“I really wanted to come back to Werder, so this is great that I have been able to do that again,” explained Pizarro.

“Now I am looking for a nice big house.”

Pizarro will make a useful addition to Thomas Schaaf’s squad having scored 17 league goals in 26 games for Bremen while on loan last season and will stay in the north German city until June 30, 2012 with the option of an extra year.

“I am very glad that we could finally confirm this transfer,” said Bremen’s director of sport Klaus Allofs.

“This topic has been on going for several months and in the last few weeks it has all come together.”

Allofs said Pizarro is already eligible to play against Kazakhstan side FK Aktobe in the Europa League play-off on Thursday night.

Bremen are reported to have paid five million euros for him and the four-times German champions have so far this season signed four players – Marko Marin from Borussia Moenchengladbach, Tim Borowski from Bayern Munich and forward Marcelo Moreno from Shakhtar Donetsk on a loan deal.

All four additions were possible after Brazilian play-maker Diego was sold to Juventus for 25 million euros at the start of the summer.

“Unfortunately, we lost a great player in Diego to Juventus, but I hope we can still bring some of the old success back to the club,” said Pizarro.

Pizarro’s also arrival paves the way for Bremen’s Boubacar Sanogo to join French first division side AS St. Etienne.
