Talk Sport are today reporting that both Chelsea and Everton have been handed a boost for the January transfer window as target Oscar Cardozo contract talks with Benfica have stalled over recent weeks.
The prolific striker has had his future in doubt for a number of months now, but it had looked as though he was ready to commit to the Portuguese club on a long-term basis.
However, Cardozo seems to have asked Benfica for a significant increase in his wages – which has sparked concerns as to whether they will be able to afford him.
The club are sure to do all they can to either come up with the cash for a new deal, or convince him to lower his demands as he is their star man right now and already has four goals in as many games this campaign.
There is no need for them to panic just yet though, as the Paraguayan international is contracted until 2014 at Benfica.
If he does not sign a new contract by the January transfer window, that is when Chelsea and Everton could make their moves to bring him to the English Premier League.
It is all set for a interesting story that is sure to develop over the next few months.
