Chelsea are in talks with RB Leipzig about the possibility of signing Josko Gvardiol, as well as Christopher Nkunku for whom an agreement appears to be close, according to The Telegraph.
The Nkunku situation sparked contrasting reports in the last couple of days, with some sources suggesting the forward had already done a medical with Chelsea, while others stated that the checkup in question was done for purely insurance reasons and had nothing to do with the Premier League club.
However, it appears that Chelsea are indeed keen to proceed with signing the 24-year-old, and all that remains to be seen is whether they’ll be able to agree a fee lower than the reported €60 million buyout clause in his contract at Leipzig.
As for Gvardiol, Chelsea desperately needed to strengthen their back line this summer after the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, as well losing the race for Jules Kounde to Barcelona. They were credited with strong interest in the Croatian centre-back late in the window, but no deal could be struck at the time and they had to contend with acquiring Wesley Fofana from Leicester City and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
At the age of 20, Gvardiol is rated as one of the most promising defensive prospects in Europe, with 12 caps as a Croatia international and a likely place in the World Cup squad for his country.
