Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is expected to face only a short spell on the sidelines following the injury he sustained against Romanian side Cluj in the Champions League, the club announced on Thursday.
The Ivory Coast international left the stadium in Transylvania with his right leg in a brace after Wednesday's goalless draw.
He underwent a scan and the results showed that Drogba sustained no significant ligament damage.
If he had sustained a major ligament injury Chelsea would have been forced to cope without their first-choice frontman for several months.
“Didier Drogba has avoided any significant ligament rupture,” said a Chelsea statement.
“He will not be requiring surgery. We will keep him under observation before putting an estimate on how long he'll be out, but we're certainly looking at weeks, not months.”
