The Metro is this afternoon reporting that Chelsea are closing in on another move for Victor Moses, despite Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan saying the player ‘owes’ the club.
It was already reported that Chelsea had a bid rejected for the former Crystal Palace man earlier this summer, but another bid from the Champions League winners appears imminent.
Now that Roberto Di Matteo has been confirmed as the permanent manager, speculation suggests that Moses is one of his main targets.
However, in a bid to keep the highly-rated youngster at the DW Stadium, Latics Chairman Whelan said: “We took this lad as a teenager and everything he has he owes to Roberto Martinez and Wigan Athletic.”
Wigan are even considering a big wage increase for Moses to try and stop him moving on.
However, if Chelsea do come calling again and make their intentions clear, the 21-year-old could have his head turned.
Earlier this week, The Mirror reported that Moses would be happy to consider his options, with the ‘highest bidder’ most likely to succeed.
It certainly seems as though Wigan will have to fight hard to keep hold of their star man, a player that was instrumental in them maintaining Premier League status.
It is over to Chelsea for the next move and then Moses himself will have to show his cards.
