Chelsea close on Romanian starlet

Romanian newspaper Dolce Sport has suggested that Chelsea are close to securing the signature of Viitorul Constanta full-back Cristian Manea.

The 17-year-old has already nailed down a regular starting berth in the senior squad, while he was handed his full Romania debut in the May friendly against Albania.

Manea caught the eye of the Premier League giants in the process, who are believed to have agreed a €3 million deal for the youngster, who should move to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

Once the deal is completed, the Blues will farm the defender on loan to either Real Mallorca or Vitesse Arnhem.

Manea became the youngest ever player to feature for the Romania national team having been 16 when he played full 90 minutes against Albania.

His suitors Chelsea start the new Champions League campaign by hosting Schalke at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues 1/3 to emerge victorious.
