At the age of 38, Thiago Silva remains one of the most important players for Chelsea, despite the Blues spending in excess of £600 million on reinforcements in the last two transfer windows.
Having arrived as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, Silva has been providing leadership and plenty of strength in the Chelsea back line for almost three years. The Brazilian veteran has played the full 90 minutes in 19 Premier League matches this season, missing one completely through a knock and sitting through one on the bench.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Chelsea are keen to extend their cooperation, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano. As for Silva, he recently expressed his view that the club still needed him, citing that need as the reason behind his wish to remain at Stamford Bridge past this summer.
Chelsea are progressing in talks with Thiago Silva to extend the contract for one more season, valid until June 2024. Discussions ongoing, waiting for green light. 🚨🔵🇧🇷 #CFC
