Chelsea closing in on Gary Cahill; Arsenal linked with shock bid for City flop

Chelsea closing in on Gary Cahill

Chelsea are on the verge of signing Bolton defender Gary Cahill, The Mirror has revealed.

The Blues as well as several other Premier League giants were linked with Cahill in the summer, but the England international eventually remained at Reebok.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Bolton chiefs decided to cash in on the player in January.

Chelsea have already opened talks with the Trotters and they are reportedly close to agreeing a £7 million fee for the defender.

It is believed that the transfer will be made official right after the festive schedule.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is not happy with his current options in the centre of defence and he is eager to pair Cahill with John Terry.

If the transfer goes through, Branislav Ivanovic will revert to right-back, with Jose Bosingwa and Alex likely to be sold in January.

Arsenal linked with shock bid for City flop

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is pondering a bid for Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge, Daily Mail reveals.

The Gunners have experienced a real selection headache of late, with a number of first team defenders currently on the sidelines.

With Andre Santos, Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs all unavailable, Arsene Wenger is likely to shop for a new full-back in January.

According to Daily Mail, Wenger is pondering a loan move for Manchester City outcast Wayne Bridge.

The former England international has been informed that he can leave Etihad Stadium in January, and he could jump at the opportunity to return to the biggest stage.

The 31-year-old hasn’t featured in the Premier League this season, although he started City’s Carling Cup clash with Birmingham.

Genoa chairman claims Borriello set to join Juventus

Roma forward Marco Borriello is on the verge of joining Juventus, according to Genoa president Enrico Preziosi.

The Rossoblu are searching for a new striker and Preziosi yesterday revealed that Borriello was one of their targets.

The Roma striker has also been linked with a move to Juventus and Preziosi believes that the Bianconeri are indeed favourites for the player’s signature.

“I don’t think that Borriello will arrive at Genoa,” Preziosi told Radio ManaMana Sport 24.

“I believe that he will join Juventus who can offer him more than we can.”

The 29-year-old striker found himself surplus to requirements at Olimpico, having started just two Serie A games this season.

Borriello is now looking to leave the club in search of first team football and he is reportedly very interested in a move to Juventus.
