Chelsea have confirmed that they’ve reached an agreement with RB Leipzig over the signing of Timo Werner.
The striker has been on red hot form this season, scoring 32 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions this season for the Bundesliga side, with two matches yet to be played. It was reported a few days ago that he wouldn’t be taking part in the remainder of Leipzig’s Champions League campaign ahead of the proposed move, after his excellent performances helped them secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
Werner had long been linked with Liverpool, openly expressing his admiration for Jurgen Klopp and his team, but the Premier League leaders proved unwilling to activate his release clause, and Chelsea saw their chance to swoop. They first agreed personal terms with the Germany international on a five-year-contract and now they’ve agreed the transfer fee with Leipzig too, which means the deal is pretty much complete, with only the medical left to be done.
