Chelsea are close to losing Olivier Giroud in this transfer window, but now that they are again allowed to sign players, it looks like the Blues could be closer to improving elsewhere, particularly in defence. Frank Lampard’s side is a young and vibrant one, who can be very dangerous, but it also showed lapses in defensive play. That is why they are eager to improve the backline and it seems as if they are looking towards Brighton.
According to The Times, that is why Chelsea have made contact with the Seagulls – to discuss the availability of Lewis Dunk. Brighton will apparently not stand in the way of a move to Stamford Bridge for the 28-year-old, but they are likely to demand a hefty transfer fee for their prized asset. Reportedly, Brighton would be ready to sell Dunk, but only for 50 million pounds.
It remains to be seen how keen Chelsea are to pay such a sum in the January transfer window.
