Chelsea cool Robinho interest

The transfer market this summer has seen more talk than action and that trend seems to continue as Chelsea look set to drop out of their high-profile chase of Real Madrid’s winger Robinho.

According to The Independent, Chelsea have become annoyed at Real Madrid’s constantly varying asking price for Robinho. In light of this, Scolari has decided to give Shaun-Wright Phillips another chance at Chelsea after he was impressed with the winger’s performances in pre-season.

This development looks set to shatter Harry Redknapp’s plans ahead of next season as he was hoping to sign the diminutive winger. However Scolari is reluctant to let any player go unless he has a replacement lined up.

Let Shaun Wright-Phillips remain at Chelsea, at least for one more season. I believe in this current squad. Therefore, any attempt at keeping this crop of players in the next season will surely prove fruitful. Regarding SWP, he is an unpredictable player who often shows flashes of pure genius. His main deficiency though is his lack of clinical finishing ability in front of goal. He often wastes point-blank chances often when we need goals the most but sometimes, often when you least expect it, he makes things happen (e.g. the goal he caused against Everton away in the Carling Cup semi last season). Moreover a big club like Chelsea ,competing at four fronts , needs players like SWP for the odd matches considering the need to rest players from time to time and possible injuries to other key players. With the arrival of Scolari,Deco and Bosingwa, plus the retention of the existing players, Chelsea is geared up for the raptures this coming season.
