Chelsea are set to join Manchester United in the race to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to the Times.
The Netherlands international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s best defenders this season and along with teammate Jose Fonte is a target for a number of the division’s big hitters.
Since signing from Celtic in the summer of 2015, the twenty-five year old has racked up fifty-seven appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals – the last of which came last month’s 2-1 Europa League victory over Inter Milan.
Prior to his move to England he won back to back Scottish Premiership titles while he also tasted success in the League Cup in 2015.
He has been capped twelve times for his country, with all of his appearances coming in either friendlies or qualifying matches.
Southampton are priced at 1/2 to beat Hapoel Beer Sheva in their final Europa League group game on Thursday evening.
