According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Chelsea look set to extend Thiago Silva’s contract for a second season.
There was an option for them to do so in the initial deal, and as he continues to impress in his first season at Stamford Bridge, it definitely feels like he’s edging towards an extension.
The negotiations back during the summer transfer window saw Chelsea include the option for such an agreement if he did well, and that’s precisely what the veteran has done.
Official discussions probably won’t take place until the new year but Frank Lampard views him as someone who is going to be critical to their success moving forward.
He isn’t exactly going to have another ten years in him, but as the Blues continue to chase silverware, Silva could be the difference between success and failure – which highlights just how good he really is right now.
