The Mail Online understands that Chelsea will send scouts to cast an eye over Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson this weekend.
The twenty-three year old has been has been linked with a move to the Blues, who are on the lookout for a long term replacement for captain John Terry, while fellow England U21 international Michael Keane of Burnley is also on their radar.
Gibson, who is the nephew of Boro chairman Steve Gibson broke into the first team in the 2010/11 campaign and has since racked up one hundred and nineteen appearances in all competitions, scoring three times.
His latest goal came in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last month, one of four defeats in their last five league games for the North East outfit.
Next up for Aitor Karanka’s men is a trip to Arsenal, and the away win can be backed at a price of 14/1.
