The Daily Star understands that Chelsea are leading the race to sign Everton star Ross Barkley, after Manchester City withdrew their interest.
The Premier League champions last week confirmed their interest in the England international and were ready to table a £35m.
However, Everton are understandably reluctant to part company with the 20 year old, and have insisted that only bids north of £50m will be considered.
The Merseyside club have a good relationship with the Premier League leaders, who sold Romelu Lukaku and loaned Christian Atsu to them in the summer.
Chelsea thumped Aston Villa by three goals to nil at the weekend to maintain a three point lead at the top of the Premier League, with six games played.
Jose Mourinho’s men turn their attention to the Champions League tomorrow evening with a trip to Portuguese side Sporting and can be backed at 8/11 to take all three points.
