The Blues have reportedly lined up Newcastle defender Jamaal Lasceles as a long-term replacement for vice-captain Branislav Ivanovic, the Sun has learned.
Serbian defender is experiencing a disappointing slump in form and Antonio Conte is believed to be looking for players to transform the ageing Blues’ defence with Newcastle 22-year-old shot blocker as an £18 million transfer target for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Chelsea have been linked with a number of names over the last couple of years, but seen as another rising star in English game Lasceles is believed to possess huge potential that could make him a top class defender in the future.
Jamaal Lasceles has displayed impressive run of form in Newcastle’s climb to the top of the Championship table, becoming a key member in Rafa Benitez’s squad.
England international defender has made 15 appearances so far in the 2016-17 season, adding one goal to his name in the process.
