(GSM) – Chelsea will certainly be without attacking duo Salomon Kalou and Yossi Benayoun, manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed.
Both players will be on the sidelines for a few weeks having picked up injuries in Chelsea’s League Cup defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.
Kalou hurt his thigh just 10 minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute while Benayoun injured his calf before hobbling off as Chelsea continued with just 10 men.
Both players will definitely not take part in Saturday’s trip to Manchester City where Chelsea will be looking to maintain their perfect start for the Premier League season.
Meanwhile promising youngster Gaël Kakuta also suffered leg and back injuries while Ancelotti confirmed that he is waiting to see the extent of his players’ injuries.
“Kakuta had a problem on his leg after the tackle in first half while Benayoun’s injury is his calf and Kalou hurt his thigh,” said Ancelotti.
“We will know more tomorrow, but they don’t look good. They will miss the next few games.
“These things can happen in football. It was a strong tackle on Kakuta and he was unlucky. The problem with his back is from the fall.”
