Chelsea interested in Evan Ferguson

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are considering a swoop for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

At the moment, Chelsea sit 10th in the Premier League table, and the wastefulness of their attacking line has been one of the main reasons for such an underwhelming campaign, despite the club spending around a billion pounds on reinforcements over the last couple of transfer windows. Mauricio Pochettino obviously needs a prolific striker to change that.

Whether Ferguson is the right man for the job remains to be seen. At the age of 19, he has certainly proven himself a capable centre-forward with plenty of talent, but in Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling, Chelsea already have three players who have scored more goals than the Ireland international so far, all of them having appeared in less matches across all competitions than him.

On the other hand, while Ferguson’s ability to jump-start Chelsea’s season at this point has to be questioned, his vast potential for the future is there for everyone to see.

But the biggest issue regarding a potential transfer of Ferguson to Stamford Bridge is his current club. With five and a half years still on his contract, Brighton are believed to be looking for a fee in excess of £100m for his services, having already cashed in £115m from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo last summer.
