Premier League giants Chelsea are currently in possession of one of the world’s best goalkeepers, but the Blues could be set to lose Thibaut Courtois as contract talks with the Belgian have reportedly stalled. As a result the London club have turned their attention to finding a potential replacement, and they have set their sights on Stoke shot stopper Jack Butland, according to the Metro.
The England international is currently out injured until the end of December with a hand issue, but he has established himself as one of the country’s top keepers over the past few seasons. It was during the 2015/16 season, when he made the third most saves in the Premier League, that Butland really announced himself to the footballing world.
Chelsea meanwhile will find themselves in need of a keeper if Courtois does indeed depart, and that eventuality is becoming increasingly likely as both PSG and Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the Belgian. Butland could thus find himself starting for the Blues, but with a World Cup coming up next summer his sights will be solely set on earning himself a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
