Chelsea join chase for Sergi Roberto

Premier League champions Chelsea are hot on the trail of Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto, according to Catalan media outlet Sport.

The highly rated footballer, who mostly operated as right-back last season, has been in high demand this summer, and the club already rejected several offers for his services.

However, Sport claims that Chelsea are now prepared to match the player’s €42 million release clause.

Sergi Roberto has another two years left on his current deal at Camp Nou and new head coach Ernesto Valverde clearly has the midfielder in his plans for the new season.

However, much will depend on the footballer’s plans for the future, especially if the Blues indeed trigger said buy-out clause.
