Chelsea are keeping a close eye on developments involving Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, according to the Telegraph.
Roman Abramovich is keen on refreshing the Chelsea squad and he’s ready to spend big to that end, but he faces certain difficulties caused by the Financial Fair Play rules. The Blues are looking likely to miss out on Champions League next season and that means a shortfall of some £50-70 million. So in order to make up for it, they will need to sell player in order to sign new ones and comply with the rules. Therefore, should Real Madrid firm up their long-standing interest in Eden Hazard with a substantial offer, it would have to be thoroughly considered.
Martial is seen as someone who could fill the gap Hazard’s potential departure would create, but he wouldn’t come cheap. His contract with Manchester United runs until 2019, but it has that “plus one” option that ensures his value doesn’t plummet just yet.
