Daily Express is reporting that Chelsea are stepping up their efforts to sign Italian defender Andrea Ranocchia from Inter Milan.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham are all believed to be keen on the Italy international, but the Blues hope to win the race for the experienced stopper.
Despite being a first team regular at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Ranocchia continues to be linked with a move away from the club as it is believed the Nerazzurri would sell if the price is right.
And Jose Mourinho seems to have made the 25-year-old one of his primary targets as he hopes to reinforce his back line in the January transfer window.
Having kept just one clean sheet in last 11 Premier League games, it is perfectly clear the Blues need to patch up the leaky defence if they are to get their title bid back on track.
With Chelsea closing the gap behind leaders Arsenal to just two points, the Blues are 7/2 for the league trophy.
