Chelsea are in pole position to sign Ipswich wonder kid Connor Wickham, but will face competition from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and numerous other Premier League clubs.
Wickham became the youngest ever Ipswich player to appear last season aged just 16 years and 11 days, and has since gone on to make 7 first team appearances.
As the youngster is still under 17 he has not been able to sign a professional contract, meaning Chelsea are likely to try and snatch the striker in the January transfer window.
Reports suggest the London club are willing to pay around £5 million for the 16-year-old, although a smaller fee is much more likely for someone who has not yet signed a contract.
Wickham has already gone on to represent England at both under-16 and under-17 levels, and scouts from at least half a dozen Premiership clubs were at Portman Road to watch the youngster against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
