Chelsea, Man City miss out on Bonucci

Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport has learned that Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci will not be moving clubs this summer.

The Italy international has emerged as a top target for new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who was prepared to pull all the stops to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

At the same time, new Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was hoping to bring him to Etihad Stadium, but it looks as though neither will succeed in their quest.

Namely, Juventus officials have decided that Bonucci is too important for the club both on and off the pitch, meaning they are not prepared to entertain offers for their star player.

The general consensus in Turin is that the Italy international is a key player for the Bianconeri and considering that he has no intention of leaving, the club’s decision is hardly a surprise.

Leonardo Bonucci has spent last six years at the club, making 194 Serie A appearance and is set to win the fifth straight winners’ medal.
