Chelsea must bounce back against Copenhagen on Tuesday night

After Chelsea were defeated by Everton on penalties in the FA Cup on Saturday you would have thought the world had come to an end.

A number of Chelsea fans have jumped on the back of Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Disappointing

The FA Cup defeat may have been disappointing but Chelsea are still in the Champions League at least.

Their whole season has been disappointing but they have a relatively straight forward tie against Copenhagen to come in Europe’s elite competition.

I think most Premier League clubs would just be happy to be in the Champions League but Chelsea are a massive ambitious club and being in only one competition is not good enough for their fans.

Comfortable

Copenhagen are the first Danish team to ever qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League. However at the end of the day they shouldn’t really trouble a team of Chelsea’s quality. Even in bad form Chelsea must surely have enough about them to defeat the Danish side over two legs.

Patchy

Chelsea started the season as one of the favourites for both Champions League and Premier League but their form this campaign has been very patchy. The players just don’t seem to have the same drive as last season.

‘Butch’

Chelsea’s season seems to have taken a downward spiral since the exit of assistant manager Ray ‘Butch’ Wilkins. The ex-Blues midfielder had been part of the Chelsea backroom staff for a long time and he was regarded as Mr Chelsea.

However according to reports Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich decided to fire the ex-England international behind the back of Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti. It seems that Wilkins exit has had a big effect on the team.

Disaster

When asked if it would a disaster if the club went out of the competition Chelsea keeper Petr Cech told Sky Sports: “Absolutely. It’s not about the name of our opposition; it’s about the distance (in the competition). To be eliminated would be very bad for Chelsea and it’s not the aim of any big club, after all.”

Well I think the Czech slightly understated it when he said elimination from the competition would be very bad. It would probably prove the end of the road for Carlo Ancelotti at the club and effectively the end of Chelsea’s season.

Hurt

The Chelsea players were criticised for their performance against Everton and surely the players will be hurt by it. They should be hurt by their poor performance against Everton and they owe the club and fans more effort.

The whole team seemed to lack energy, creativity and ideas. More importantly the players looked disinterested at times. They have to improve their attitude on the pitch or this season will be a complete loss.

Trophy

I can see Chelsea progressing past their Danish opponents but their current form will have to improve if they are to win the Champions League trophy. And they will face tough competition from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United for the trophy.

Torres

If Chelsea are to progress then record signing Fernando Torres needs to find some sort of form. In his previous appearances for the Blues he has looked slow and his touch has been poor, not two attributes that we would have associated with the Spaniard a few years ago.

He has to start paying back that £50million price tag, as at the moment the club are in desperate need of inspiration. At his best Fernando Torres is just the sort of player that Chelsea need. He is the sort of player that can inject pace and energy into a team. He must however start to improve his performances.

Exit

The way the season has gone I can’t see the Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti remaining in charge at Stamford Bridge much longer. There is now even speculation that the Italian will definitely leave the club in the summer.

It will be a shame for the Italian as I believe him to be a top manager. Unfortunately it looks as if he has lost the dressing room and it seems he is being undermined by Mr Abramovich.

At a club the size of Chelsea as manager you can’t afford to lose control of your players or have a power hungry owner. It now looks like Ancelotti is on borrowed time. If the Italian is going to earn himself a stay of execution then it’s vital his side starting playing for their boss. If not then Ancelotti will be heading out of the Bridge sooner rather than later.

Can Chelsea win the Champions League?

@Dylan…I wouldn’t have been surprised either given how the season has been going…i’m glad they were able to turn it around tho. I love how Nico just seems to step out of the shadows and light up the net when everyone has their eyes and expectations on Drogba and Torres now…

@Me the Gooner!…you’re right. B/c of Roman we lost Mourinho…that is still the single biggest loss to the club (since i’ve been a fan)…even bigger than Johnny boy’s penalty slip-up against Man U…to me it is anyway. Roman is his own worst enemy…I don’t like this Torres deal one bit, but I think there is a trick up his sleeve and Torres is bait to lure other big fish to the Bridge. Chelsea will have a new face soon…rumor has it that 5-6 starters will be heading out the door within a year. Pretty exciting as the squad has grown a bit stale.

chealse a big club and surely the club’s managerial position shouldn’t be put under presure or sacking the manager when the results are not forth-coming.And roman should have patiences with his manager even when the season ends without any trophy.he should be demanding but not demanding too much with an expectation of winning trophies.he should take an example from manchester united and arsenal who stick with their managers with or without trophy.i think it will not be fair to the italian if he is fired .give the manager enough time to have a bigger understanding with the players.carlo is a great manager that everyone knows.in my opinion roman too high demend is his main downfall and forever it will be.
