Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said his side were sleeping against Arsenal they have to wake up quickly before their season is ruined.
A 3-1 defeat at the Emirates leaves Chelsea fourth in the English Premier League table, with only one victory in their last eight league games.
Having spoken of Chelsea’s improved performances leading up to the Arsenal clash at the Emirates on Monday, Ancelotti conceded he was wrong to believe their bad patch was over.
“I hoped that things were better,” Ancelotti said.
“We worked very well these two weeks but it was not enough obviously. We didn’t play well, we weren’t focused 100 percent.”
“We didn’t have a good transition from the back, we missed a lot of passes. We started the second half bad, conceded two quick goals, and after that it was impossible to come back in the game.”
“It continues to be difficult, very difficult, but we have a game in two days against Bolton and we can change things with the next game.”
“I’m worried obviously because it’s six or seven games we are not able to win. I didn’t see the team play how I want, we had difficulty to play our football.”
“We lost confidence in our play. We have to keep going, we have to have confidence in our play and our ability. It’s not totally wrong, we have fantastic players. ”
“Now we are sleeping, this is the reality of this team. When you play against a good team like Arsenal you can lose if you don’t wake up. When you are sleeping it’s important to wake up quickly.”
Ancelotti insisted he is not under pressure from owner Roman Abramovich and refused to talk about getting the sack. But he admitted Abramovich will be concerned.
“Obviously he will not be happy about this moment,” he said.
“I have to take my responsibility. But it’s not a question you can ask me – how long he will be patient. Obviously we have to do better because it’s not usual that Chelsea go so long without winning.”
