Chelsea have expressed interest in Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italy international’s future remains in balance as his current contract is set to expire in June 2012.
Roma chiefs haven’t had a lot of success in trying to persuade De Rossi into signing a new deal at Olimpico, meaning that they could be forced to sell their star player this summer.
The player’s disciplinary problems are another reason why the club chiefs may decide to cash in on the midfielder.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea are looking to take advantage of the situation and they are now readying bid for the Italy international.
New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas sees De Rossi as the perfect replacement for Michael Essien, who is set to miss next six months with a knee problem.
