Chelsea prepare Toney offensive

Accordiing to Goal.com, Chelsea are preparing an offer for Brentford striker Ivan Toney for the upcoming January transfer window.

Chelsea have been truly woeful in front of the opposition goal this season. With just five goals and as many points from six Premier League matches, they’re currently in 14th place, much closer to the relegation zone than the top four, and the situation is obviously unacceptable for a club that spent as much money as they did over the last three transfer windows.

As manager Mauricio Pochettino pointed out, his team aren’t playing bad, quite the contrary; they move the ball very quickly and create plenty of chances, but those chances usually go to waste. Nicolas Jackson, the striker they signed from Villarreal this summer, simply isn’t delivering goals and Romelu Lukaku has gone to AS Roma on a season-long loan.

Toney has recently returned to Brentford training, having served a ban from all football activities since May due to betting-related offences. Since joining the club in 2020, the 27-year-old has 68 goals and 21 assists in 124 games in all competitions for the Bees. Speaking to Sky Sports, Brentford boss Thomas Frank said every player has his price, and confirmed that it applied for Toney as well.
