Chelsea have decided not to press ahead with their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to The Times. The report has claimed that Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign Ugarte after Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain made a late move for the 22-year-old Uruguay international.
Ugarte was keen on a move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window, but then PSG decided to offer “a significantly greater financial package”, according to the report. Former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea have decided not to match or better than and have decided to end their interest in the youngster.
Chelsea spent a lot of money in the summer of 2022 and in the January transfer window, and it is interesting that they do not want to pay over the odds now. The Blues had a terrible campaign where they sacked first Thomas Tuchel and then Graham Potter before Frank Lampard failed terribly in his role as the interim manager.
