Chelsea have put the talks with Mason Mount over a new contract on hold until the end of the season as they aim to focus on doing the best they can in the Premier League and the Champions League, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The talks will then recommence, with Mount’s current deal entering its final year, but the club won’t allow them to drag on for too long. Either an agreement will be found, or a sale will be sanctioned.
Chelsea have already started rebuilding their midfield ranks, with the signings of Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos, as well as the departure of Jorginho, and it remains to be seen which way things go with Mount.
The 24-year-old England international has already rejected several offers of a new deal from the club, and there have been reports of several clubs, most notably Liverpool, preparing to make their move for his services.
